The weekend is here, and I for one am mega excited (yes, I said mega) to kick back, relax and maybe even do a little shopping while Mr. AiF's out of town. Hey, when the cat's away, am I right? Nothing crazy, just a thing or two to spice things up a bit... You know what else I'm particularly looking forward to this weekend? Uninterrupted, quality time with my old pal Netfix without so much as a peep about my (totally awesome) movie selections... Looks like it's just going to be me and Teen Wolf this Friday night — hubba hubba.

Sometimes when all my shirts seem boring and old, I like to turn my attentions to Mr. AiF's closet... Exhibit A: This plaid shirt. The colour and shape make it perfect for layering, and let's face it, it's always more fun wearing other people's clothes. Sorry Lobbie.

Well I don't know about you guys, but I'm beat from yesterday's festivities... My family knows how to get down, so we didn't get to bed until 2 am last night — Can you say party animal wannabes? I think I'll be paying the price in the under eye region today as I travel to Vancouver to see Mr. AiF's fam-jam... What can I say, it was worth it.

{Style} Lost & Found...

After weeks of procrastination and dread at the very thought of it, I'm proud to report that my closet is  finally organized. That's right my friends, it's nothing but neat and tidy as far as the eye can see. The process was cathartic and ripe with discovery— take this skirt for instance. I bought it last year and only wore it twice before it found itself trapped behind a stack of tops and miscellanea, never again to see the light of day until this very moment. Liberating. Unfortunately for me (and the skirt) it's only a matter of time before my closet avalanches out of control again, but let's just enjoy the moment, shall we?

Can we just take a moment to talk about this skirt? I bought it at The Pretty Secrets popup shop a couple weeks ago and have been obsessed with it every since. I mean come on, it's gold, pleated and all kinds of awesome, am I right? Plus it's vintage Smart Set, which totally appeals to the 13-year-old 90s child inside... Hashtag sigh.

{Style} Remixing With Lulus.com

Are there any outfit-remixers in the house today? Yeah, that's what I thought... We all do it, because at the end of the day, why wouldn't you want to get the most out of your wardrobe as humanly possible? It just makes good cents. That's why when Lulus.com sent me this adorable cross dress, I thought it would be fun to style it three ways instead of just one.... More bang for your buck, if you will.

From dressy to casual — heck, or even transformed into a top — this dress proved to be incredibly versatile and chameleon-esque... So basically an avid remixer's dream.

{Style} Getting Thrifty With It...

Although I have much respect for those who can sift through heaps of vintage or second hand clothing and come up with enviable ensembles, I'm just not one of those people. Now don't get me wrong, I have serious love for vintage accessories and may be known to buy the occasional vintage silk blouse from time to time, but clothing just isn't my thing. So when my local newspaper challenged me to put together a thrifted, head-to-toe look for under $50, I suited up and — in my very best Barney Stinson voice — proclaimed "challenge accepted."

What I thought would take several hours and numerous stops surprisingly only took about 30 minutes, in which time I was able to score a sweet leather skirt, peach blouse, black wedges and chain necklace (above), as well as a velvet dress (yes, velvet), plaid shirt and braided belt to boot... Not bad if I say so myself!

Baby it's cold outside, but I refuse to bust out the parka and winter boots just yet... Call me crazy, but there's no way I'm giving in to the upcoming harsh weather without a fight. Come hell or frozen blue extremities, I'm going to wear what I want, even if it means improvising with a giant (and admittedly super warm) sweater. Hey, I do what I can. xx

{Copy Cat} Alexa Chung

I've admired Alexa Chung's style for quite some time now because, let's face it, the girl has a way with clothes. It doesn't hurt that she's tiny and gorgeous to the point where even a ratty old potato sack would look good on her, but I digress. Reflecting on what makes here style so iconic and enduringly chic, I think it all comes down to effortlessness and accessibility, and to prove it (at least the accessibility part), I pulled items from my existing wardrobe to mimic Alexa's style. Even though my version is nowhere near as spectacular as hers, I had a lot of fun recreating her look with items I already had in my closet... And if I can mimic her style with little-to-no effort, you can too.

{Style} The Basics...

In a season filled with falling leaves, cheerful holidays and pumpkin-flavoured everything, you know what makes me happiest of all come September? Tights. And the more I have to choose from — be it colour, texture or both — the better. Grey is my tight colour du jour, mainly because it was the first pair I could find before rushing off to work, but also because it makes for a surprisingly versatile basic... Move over boring black hosiery; there's a new tight in town.

{Oxblood Week} Shades of Fall...

{Style Panel} Black-on-Black...

Embracing the coming season's black-on-black, leather-hungry sensibilities might not be for everyone, but the girlie girls (myself included) of the world can breathe a collective sigh of relief — The trend is as flexible as it is fun!

To achieve a look that feels feminine yet decisively on-trend, I opted for a faux leather mini and a black, peek-a-boo cutout sweater. By keeping silhouette, proportion and accessories in mind — think statement necklaces and fun bracelets — I was able to embrace the trend while still remaining true to myself. Fist pump.
