{Style} Fleeting Fall...

I live in a strange, anomaly of a city where it snows just as quickly as it melts, completely messing with your head when you're trying to get dressed in the morning. These photos were taken last week during a particularly warm period, however the very next day, mother nature flipped us the bird and dumped snow on our unsuspecting heads. A snow which, unfortunately, won't be going anywhere for the next six or so months... Not cool, Edmonton. Basically what I'm trying to tell you is enjoy these fall-ish photos while you can, because for the next few months all you're going to see here on AiF is snow, snow, snow... Consider yourselves officially warned.

{Style} Getting Thrifty With It...

Although I have much respect for those who can sift through heaps of vintage or second hand clothing and come up with enviable ensembles, I'm just not one of those people. Now don't get me wrong, I have serious love for vintage accessories and may be known to buy the occasional vintage silk blouse from time to time, but clothing just isn't my thing. So when my local newspaper challenged me to put together a thrifted, head-to-toe look for under $50, I suited up and — in my very best Barney Stinson voice — proclaimed "challenge accepted."

What I thought would take several hours and numerous stops surprisingly only took about 30 minutes, in which time I was able to score a sweet leather skirt, peach blouse, black wedges and chain necklace (above), as well as a velvet dress (yes, velvet), plaid shirt and braided belt to boot... Not bad if I say so myself!

Last week while scouring Pinterest, I came across this adorable Sparkle Strap watch from DKNY. My first thought was, "Oh em gee, I can do that!" while my second thought was, "Do I have any watches I totally hate?" The answer, sadly, was no, so off I went to Value Village to see what I could find. After much sifting, I came across a black leather watch ($5.99) that fit the bill, so I mad-dashed home to get my Modpodge on... Ooooh yeah.

{Style} Gingham Style...

Well it's official— Gingham is my new jam. I don't know what it is, but I can't seem to get enough of those little squares. They're like the perfect blend of casual and preppy, anchoring dressier elements while adding visual interest. What am I even talking about? Who cares, they're totally cute... Let's just go with that.

{Life Log} Confessions of a Shopaholic...

My shopping ban has come and gone, and difficult as it was at times, I learned a thing or two along the way... So I guess in retrospect it was kind of a good thing— Kind of. No but seriously, I'm really glad I took a break long enough to appreciate my pre-existing wardrobe and all the things I can do with less.

The biggest thing I learned during my month of no shopping was that I spend waaaay too much money on clothes. And the more I buy, the more I seem to want to buy. It's a strange, vicious cycle, and half the time I don't even wear some of the things that come home with me... What's up with that? Seriously, the top I wore in this post was bought over five years ago and it had never been worn— It still had its tags!

Now don't get me wrong, I still love shopping as much as the next girl, I just don't want to mindlessly buy things because I think I should... That's just not healthy. Because in the age-old words of Carrie Bradshaw herself, "Why are we should-ing all over ourselves?" I think homegirl was on to something.

So here's to taking a step back and learning to love what we have... I know I will. xx

Well, it's official: winter's here and in a big way... I know, I know, totally gross. But regardless of old man winter's cruel tricks, I plan on sticking it to the elements with cute layers and cozy accessories. Do your worst, snow.

This week has taken a lot out of me, so I'm planning on having a quiet weekend at home with my gentleman. No plans, no obligations, just delightful nothingness... Doesn't that sound heavenly? I'm thinking movie marathons, magazines and cocoa by the fire, all the while sporting my new uniform of choice— pajamas. Don't let these photos fool you, I'm totally scrubbing it up this weekend! That's right my friends, I lead an exiting life.
